A Day at Donny’s Automotive: BMW Wheel Bearings & Ford Escape Repairs
At Donny’s Automotive, every day brings its own set of challenges and opportunities to serve our customers with the highest standards of quality, fairness, and attention to detail. As a veteran-owned and operated local shop, we’re passionate about making sure every client leaves feeling like a valued part of our community. Recently, we had one of those action-packed days that truly showcased our team’s expertise and dedication.
On this particular day, our bays were bustling with activity as we tackled two major jobs: replacing wheel bearings on a 7 Series BMW and swapping out a belt and thermostat on a Ford Escape. Both repairs required precision, skill, and a lot of teamwork. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we got these vehicles safely back on the road.

Morning: The 7 Series BMW Arrives
The day started bright and early when a customer brought in their BMW 7 Series. Anyone who owns a BMW knows these vehicles are marvels of German engineering—luxurious, powerful, and built for performance. But even the best cars require maintenance, and this 7 Series was making a humming noise from the wheels. The customer mentioned the sound had grown louder over the past week, especially at highway speeds, and wanted to ensure everything was safe.
Diagnosing the Problem
Our ASE- and WHI-certified technicians got to work with a thorough inspection. We took the BMW for a test drive, listening for the characteristic growl that often points to failing wheel bearings. Back at the shop, we lifted the car and checked for play in the wheels and any grinding noises when spinning them by hand. Sure enough, the front wheel bearings were worn out—a common issue as vehicles accumulate miles, especially on heavier, high-performance sedans like the 7 Series.

The Repair Process
Replacing wheel bearings on a BMW is no small feat. These parts are crucial for the smooth, safe rotation of the wheels, and any mistake can compromise vehicle safety. We sourced high-quality OEM bearings from our trusted suppliers—thanks to our partnerships with WorldPAC, BMW, and Parts Authority, we always have access to the right parts at the right price.
Our technician, Noah, carefully removed the wheels, brake calipers, and rotors, then pressed out the old bearings using specialized equipment. After cleaning and inspecting the hubs for any additional wear, he pressed in the new bearings and reassembled everything with precise torque specifications. We take extra care to ensure every bolt and component is installed exactly as BMW intended—no shortcuts, no guesswork.
Quality Control
Before handing the keys back, we took the BMW for another test drive. The difference was immediate: the ride was whisper-quiet again, and the steering felt tight and responsive. We also double-checked all safety systems and made sure the customer understood the work we performed. They left with a big smile, knowing their BMW was safer and smoother than it had been in months.

Midday: Ford Escape Needs Some TLC
While the BMW was being buttoned up, another customer arrived with a Ford Escape. The owner had noticed the engine temperature creeping up and a squealing noise from under the hood. With the summer heat approaching, they didn’t want to risk a breakdown and brought it straight to us.
Diagnosis & Customer Communication
We always start with a detailed conversation to understand the customer’s concerns. Our front desk team gathered all the details and updated the customer on our process and expected turnaround. We then performed a diagnostic scan and a physical inspection under the hood.
It didn’t take long to spot the culprits: a worn serpentine belt and a faulty thermostat. The belt had visible cracks and was losing tension, while the thermostat was sticking, preventing the engine from maintaining the proper operating temperature.
The Repair Process
We sourced a new belt and thermostat from our network of suppliers—AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts always come through in a pinch. Our technician, Donny, walked the customer through the repair plan and gave a clear estimate—no surprises, no upselling. That’s part of our pledge to work closely with every client’s budget and needs.
First, we removed the old serpentine belt, taking care to inspect the pulleys and tensioner for any hidden issues. With the new belt installed, we moved on to the thermostat. This involved draining some coolant, removing the old thermostat housing, and carefully installing the new part with a fresh gasket. We topped off the coolant, bled the system to remove air pockets, and checked for leaks.
Final Checks
After the repairs, we started the Escape and let it reach operating temperature. The new belt ran silently, and the engine warmed up and cooled down exactly as it should. We took the car for a quick spin, keeping an eye on the temperature gauge and listening for any unusual sounds. Everything checked out perfectly.
The customer was thrilled—not only was their Escape ready for summer, but they also appreciated the clear communication and quick turnaround. They even mentioned they’d be back for future maintenance, which is the best compliment we can receive.
